Walt Disney custom Vinylmation by Michal Miszta
Postado por
Marcio Disney
"Another custom on small 3 inch platform, this time on vinylmation. The blank toy was sent to me over the ocean by Linda from USA. She bought me this gift in Disneyland in California. I decided to paint it as Walt Disney and keep him over my desk as a tribute to the man who pushed the art of animation to the next level and shaped entertainment and toy industry all over the world. I know that the world he created is full of colours, but I made him black and white to match my Albert Einstein figure."

Alice in Wonderland series released today
Postado por
Marcio Disney
Today, it is all about the new Vinylmation™ - Alice in Wonderland series!
D-Street
locations in California and Florida will be releasing this series on
November 4 and 5 respectively. The Disney Store locations will also be
releasing this series on November 4. If are unable to visit any of
these locations, then mark your calendar for November 11 as that is when
the series will be released via the DisneyParks.com/Store.
For those who are attending the release at D-Street at Downtown
Disney West Side in Florida, Disney will be releasing three one-of-a-kind
custom figures tomorrow. Each figure will have a retail of $1,000. They
were designed by some incredibly talented artists.
First, a 9-inch figure designed by Julie West from San Fransisco, California. The figure features a stylized Queen of Hearts presented in Julie's unique art style.
This is a 9-inch figure designed by Jeff Lamm featuring
the White Rabbit. Jeff hails from Ohio and created a one-of-a-kind
Vinylmation figure earlier this past year featuring a pirate.
Our last figure was designed by Lana Crooks and also features the White
Rabbit. Lana is from Chicago, Illinois and the figure she designed
looks awesome. It comes complete with a small pocket watch.
These figures will be released on a first-come, first-serve basis at D-Street in Florida on November 4.
Disney caught up with Thomas Scott on the eve of the release of this series.
Thomas was the sole artist who designed the figures and packaging for
this series. He shared with us a little history behind the creation of
it.
"The 'Alice in Wonderland' series was planned to be an extension of the Animation series," explained Thomas. "We thought there could be certain features that could have an individual series. Alice was in Animation series one so I built upon that design. The animated feature has long been a favorite of mine and I am happy to see it come to life."
Thomas said his favorite figure in the series is the Oyster Baby as he
loves that scene in the film. It was one of the first figures that he
created for this series. He spoke of the other characters selected for
the series.
"I wanted a good balance of characters for this series," continued Thomas. "The film offers a whole array of characters so I selected some of the more popular ones and some characters who I never see on merchandise."
Thomas also designed the packaging.

Donning Your Vinylmation Ears by Steven Miller
Postado por
Marcio Disney
When I think of classic Disney icons, one image immediately comes to mind – the Ear Hat. It has become that “must have” souvenir when visiting Disney Parks (I got one when visiting Tokyo Disney Resort a few years ago). You may recall from previous Disney Parks Blog articles that we’ve started introducing limited edition ear hats (for a refresher – see Alice in Wonderland and The 55th Anniversary of Disneyland Resort. These highly collectible hats are presented in a satin lined hat box and contain unique applications and designs. In a word, they look awesome (okay, that was three words). Now, the limited edition ear hat is coming to Vinylmation on September 24, 2010 at D-Street in California and Florida. These hats have an edition size of 600 each and contain a unique addition – a specially designed 3-inch figure. I recently spoke with Maria Clapsis, the artist who brought these ear hats to life.
“These are the first limited edition ear hats I have designed,” explained Maria. “I used two different 9-inch figures from the Urban #4 series as the basis for design. I’ve designed pins and other Vinylmation figures before. Yet, it’s fun to do something completely different once in a while.”
The two figures she used were designed by Thomas Scott (pictured left) and Mike Sullivan (pictured right). I asked Mike about the inspiration behind his design.
“It was how I was feeling that day [laughs],” said Mike. “At the time, I had been drawing lots of ‘cute’ things, so I went a completely opposite direction with this figure.”
It looks like I found a hat to wear when it is one of “those” days.
Thomas explained that his design was based on the hot rod culture (a culture in which I wish I could join. Hint – I need a new car).
“The figure is inspired by classic hot rod paint jobs,” continued Thomas. “The most common color scheme is black with red and yellow flames. The other popular one uses the blue as a base color to which I selected. I do not have a hot rod, yet I really like the culture and art design of hot rod customizers.”
Maria worked with Thomas and Mike to create the 3-inch figures. She took elements from the 9-inch figures. If you look carefully on the bottom of the figures, you will notice that two artists are listed – Maria plus either Thomas or Mike. I love the fact that if you have all three items, they tell a complete story.
Fans in Florida can meet Maria and Thomas as well as Eric Caszatt and Casey Jones, who designed the recently released Vinylmation – The Nightmare Before Christmas series, on Friday, September 24 at D-Street at Downtown Disney WestSide. This artist autograph session will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. I hope to see you there (don’t forget to sign the “I Was There” figure).

Vintage Black & White Davy Crockett for D23 Expo
Postado por
Marcio Disney
Today is the start of the D23 Expo! We have
one more look at a new 3-inch figured that will be introduced at the
D23 Expo Dream Store today. The figure was designed by Disney Design
Group Artist Casey Jones. It will have an edition size of 1,200 and a
retail of $13.95. Below is an image of the packaging for the figure.
"Since Wave 1 of the Disney Treasures DVD sets, my family has loved Davy
Crockett," exclaimed Casey. "[Davy Crockett's] presence is still felt
in the Parks, with Disneyland's canoes, the ranch in Paris, and all over
Fort Wilderness in Walt Disney World. He was the perfect character for
the 9-inch figure I designed for a Vinylmation Park series. This
special figure for the D23 Expo is the exclusive black and white
variant, which is how most viewers first saw Davy in his broadcast
premiere on the "Disneyland" television show, and in the opening day
broadcast from Disneyland in 1955!"
Here a few more images of the 3-inch figure. Similiar to the 9-inch figure, Davy's cap is removable.
If you are attending the Expo, we hope you have a blast! Be sure to
stop by the preview area for Disney Theme Park Merchandise. Debbie
Carlos, one of the Merchandise Events managers will have a variety of
upcoming figures on display in that area.

Postado por
Marcio Disney
One more figure being released at the
upcoming D23 Expo. Eric Caszatt has talked about the 9-inch figure
he created featuring Butch.
"I've always been a fan of the Pluto shorts, and Butch was one of Pluto's great rivals," explained Eric. "I felt that Butch gave Pluto an opportunity to show more of his personality and show how clever he could be."
The bulldog Butch appeared in 11 cartoons beginning with "Bone Trouble" in 1940. This figure will have an edition size of 750 and a retail of $44.95.
